The Alabama Health Insurance Plan If you are federally eligible, you can buy health insurance from the Alabama Health Insurance Plan. Its benefits include hospitalization, physician services, prescription drugs, and some mental health and substance abuse services. You can select from two coverage options under the Alabama Health Insurance Plan. No pre-existing condition exclusion can be imposed on your coverage, because you must be federally eligible to enroll in the Alabama Health Insurance Plan. Premiums range depending on the coverage option you choose, your age and gender, and whether you smoke. Alabama Health Insurance Plan policies are renewable as long as you pay your premiums, continue to reside in Alabama, and meet other eligibility requirements.
