 Alaska Comprehensive Health Insurance Association (ACHIA)
It is possible to qualify for ACHIA coverage by two ways. You will be able to purchase ACHIA coverage, if you are federally eligible. ACHIA does not provide family coverage, so each member of your family who wants ACHIA coverage needs to qualify on his or her own. ACHIA coverage includes hospital and physician care, diagnostic tests and x-rays, prescription drugs, and other services. You will not receive a pre-existing condition exclusion when you enroll in ACHIA, if you are federally eligible. You may have a 6-month pre-existing condition exclusion period when you first enroll in ACHIA, if you are not federally eligible. Premiums will range based on the plan you select. As long as you pay your premiums, continue to reside in Alaska, and meet other eligibility requirements ACHIA policies are renewable.
Chronic and Acute Medical Assistance (CAMA)
If you do not qualify for Medicaid, have very little income, and have little or no health insurance, you may be eligible for CAMA. You will only be eligible for one month of coverage at a time, if you qualify for CAMA. Chronic and Acute Medical Assistance only provides limited in-patient hospitalization, physician services, and prescription drugs for persons with certain chronic conditions.
